Call for Proposals

Lake Superior Libraries Symposium 2014: Bridges

June 6th, Duluth MN

The organizers of the Lake Superior Libraries Symposium (LSLS) invite breakout session and poster presentation proposals for our third annual conference to be held on June 6, 2014 at the University of Minnesota Duluth. “Bridges,” the 2014 theme, reflects more than a move across the water to a new location–it highlights the creative approaches and partnerships happening in and among libraries.

Suggestions for presentation topics include:

  • Building Bridges
How have you provided library services by partnering with someone outside of your department, institution, or community? Tell us about the connections you’ve made, how you made them, and the resulting impact of those connections.
  • Burning Bridges
What sacred cows did you slay to make improvements at your library? What have you stopped doing in order to better serve your patrons’ needs?
  • Bridged
This term is used by Twin Ports residents and visitors who know the frustrations of being stuck behind the raised lift bridge, but we’re all familiar with feeling stuck in our profession, department, or organization. What innovative tools or methods have you used to cross-over to success?

Successful breakout session and poster presentations will be applicable to many types of libraries and showcase effective and innovative practices. 60-minute breakout sessions should include 10-15 minutes of question and answer. Panel presentations, particularly those representing a diversity of library types, sizes, and/or locations, are strongly encouraged. All presenters will receive a discounted registration rate of $25.

The call for  proposals is now closed.

LSLS allows educators and librarians to share their expertise, learn from their colleagues, and network to develop a stronger community of information professionals. Staff from all types of libraries are encouraged to attend. The event is organized and supported by library staff and educators from Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin; for a full list of our supporters, see https://lakesuperiorlibrariessymposium.com/about/supporters/.
